GAY PRIDE OR GODS COVENANT?

If you turn on your television today, you are most certainly guaranteed to see various movies, tv-series, documentaries, etc. celebrating or engaging in some sort of same-sex sexual activity with one another. Not only that but the culture is now shifting its stance on whether using personal pronouns to describe someone is socially acceptable anymore. What I mean is, our society is moving towards using binary terms to describe a certain gender. For example, when I see a female I refer to her as a “she” & for a male I will refer to him as a “he”. This would also be referred to as the word gender binary. However, people who don’t feel that they fit into either of these two groups are non-binary. Being non-binary gives them the freedom to pick the identity that feels right for them. And they may use several pronouns to describe themselves like “they/them”. The LGBTQ community considers itself a rainbow of all kinds of identities. This leads me to my next point. The most notable symbol marketed by this community to promote gay pride is a flag using the colors of the rainbow. The flag was originally made/designed by a man named Gilbert Baker in 1978 whose mission was to create a symbol for the homosexual community. Over the years there have been various changes in colors made to the symbol depending on the meaning they're trying to convey, but the intent behind it remained the same. The meaning of the following colors below are

Red – Life

Orange – Healing

Yellow – Sunlight

Green – Nature

Blue – Serenity

Purple – Spirit

These colors are strikingly similar to the rainbow that appear in the sky after it rains. However, as we will see the biblical meaning of a rainbow is vastly different from that of the LGBTQ movement. The rainbow flag is used to celebrate this movement, & the biblical rainbow first appeared after God judge the world for these kinds of sins & others. However, some opponents may argue whether the bible teaches that same-sex relationships are a sin. And to that questions, I submit 1 Corinthians 6:9-12 it states 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. These verses are saying that anyone who practice these kinds of sins will not inherit the kingdom of God. The reason why the word “practice” is important is that it’s not a sin to struggle with the temptation of a particular sin, but only when the temptation progress to actively engaging in sin. For example, Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness for forty days & forty nights Matthew 4:1-11(see for reference). But he never actively engaged in sin from the temptation being hurled at him. Before the rainbow first appeared in the bible, Genesis 6 gives a graphic picture of the increasing corruption on Earth. The verse starts by saying when man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive & they married them & bore children. Why is this important? Well, it’s because the sons of God in the Hebrew language usually applied to angels Job 1:6 (see for reference) Genesis is saying angels had a physical union with human women. And the result of this union produced an unnatural offspring called Nephilim. Genesis 6:4 (see for reference) The word Nephilim is often translated as giant. The world was so depraved during the time of Noah that women began to engage sexually with the sons of God(aka fallen angels/demons). Some scholars believe that this type of demonic interaction with women could have possibly contaminated the bloodline of the messiah (aka Jesus Christ). This goes all the way back to when man first fell into sin in Genesis 3 (see for reference) However, verse 15 of that chapter is the one that’s crucial to this topic it states

 “I will put enmity between you and the woman,

    and between your offspring[e] and her offspring;

 he shall bruise your head,

    and you shall bruise his heel.”

This verse is God proclaiming to Satan how he would be ultimately punished and destroyed and that would be by the seed of a human woman, which is Jesus Christ. So throughout the bible, Satan has been on a mission to destroy that seed. So, in essence, demons having sexual relations with human women could have been one of those strategies by Satan to destroy the seed of the women. The reason why I am mentioning this is that this egregious sin & many others were the reason God decided to wipe out man from the face of the earth with a worldwide flood. However, when God instructed Noah to build the ark, He still gave man 120 years to repent while the ark was being built. Which in reality is not different from today. The book of revelation is another prophecy warning of how God has fixed a day to come back & judge unrepentant sinners & destroy the world by fire who have not trusted in the ark of salvation through Jesus Christ. So in the case of the days of Noah, people still didn’t repentant after 120 years & God finally fulfilled his promise & brought rain upon the earth that resulted in a worldwide flood that ultimately drowned the entire human race except for eight people. (Noah & his wife, his three sons & their wives). After God judged the entire human race with a flood that destroyed the world, He made a covenant with Noah & his descendants after the flood had ended. Which is called the Noahic Covenant. Genesis 9:8-17 (see for reference) The terms of this covenant are unconditional, it was made to Noah and all his descendants & every living creature & the earth in general & then God sealed the covenant with a sign “The rainbow”. The reason the rainbow was so significant is that it’s very possible that up until the flood account rain hadn’t come upon the earth & somehow the surface of the ground was watered by streams coming up from the earth. The earth was possibly surrounded by a canopy of water, creating a greenhouse effect. Genesis 2:6 states “and a mist was going up from the land and was watering the whole face of the ground. So, the rainbow was a covenant God made that He would never destroy the earth again with a flood. Genesis 9:11-15 states

 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.

The sign of the rainbow in the sky was a gracious act by God. Because after the flood rain was now going to be a common occurrence upon the earth. And if Noah saw rain again, how would he know whether or not he & his family should pack up their things again & re-enter the ark for fear of another flood. God wanted Noah to know that the rainbow in the clouds would be a sign of his covenant promise not to destroy the earth by water. However, the sad reality is in our current post-flood times the sign of the rainbow has been hijacked by the LGBTQ movement to be a symbol that represents & celebrates gay pride. This representation is the exact opposite of what God intended for it to mean. The biblical rainbow is a sign given to humanity after judgment for sins by God. And the LGBTQ community are using the colors of the rainbow as a symbol to celebrate the kinds of sins by which God destroyed the world over.

Lastly, the goal here is not to incite hatred against the LGBTQ community, but rather to preach love in the form of repentance. Our goal as Christians should be the same as Noah, to warn sinners of the wrath of God’s judgment that will come again upon the world, by inviting them to come on board the ark of salvation found in none other than Jesus Christ. God has fixed a day in the future where he will punish unrepentant sinners to eternal destruction & destroy the world by fire. 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 (see for reference) & 2 Peter 3:10 (see for reference). Sadly the bible has also predicted many people will not accept the invitation to come on the ark of salvation. But we are to remain faithful by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to a dying world.
